Just an ordinary day...

Old Style White Board
One of my friends is the master of creating functional pieces for the home using old windows.  So, I can't claim this idea but she was willing to share a window with me, so I was able to make a white board.  This is in my kitchen and has everything I need to remember so organized and easy to find (yes! no more sticky notes everywhere!).

Inspiration How-To
You will need:
An old window (many thrift stores have old windows)
Razor blade (optional)
Acrylic paint (any color)
Paint brush
Sand paper (optional)
Vinyl or scrapbook lettering
Dry-erase marker & eraser

1. Use a rag to clean all dust off the wooden frame & the glass.  If needed, use a razor blade to get any old paint off the glass.
2. Carefully paint the wooden frame & let it dry completely.
3. To create an antique look, use a piece of sandpaper to sand the corners & edges
of the painted wood.
4. Place the vinyl/scrapbook (I used foam scrap booking letters) letters
on the glass at the desired location.
5. The window can be attached to the wall using large anchors & screws.
Make sure to anchor the window into a stud in the wall.
6. You are now ready to use your calendar, list, etc!

Framed Bulletin Board
I had a large wall in our guest room with nothing on it, so instead of buying a picture, I created this bulletin board.  It's extremely easy to do and adds so much class to a simple bulletin board.  One of my girlfriends did this same thing in her baby's nursery except she used chalkboard paint instead of cork board; so cute!

Inspiration How-To
You will need:
Roll of cork board (or squares)
Scissors
Measuring Tape
Moulding (long enough to cover diameter)
4 Square moulding pieces
Paint (any color)
Level
Finishing Nails
Hammer
Ribbon (optional)

1. Cut the cork board roll to the dimensions that you want the bulletin board.
2. Use a level to make sure the cork is straight and use finishing nails to keep the cork board in place.
3. I covered the seam of the two pieces of cork board with white and red ribbon, this is completely optional.
4. Cut the moulding to the right size (make sure to ask an employee to cut the pieces for you when you buy them if you don't have a table saw).
5. Paint the moulding and corner squares (I chose white, but choose the color of your choice).
6. Nail the moulding and squares to the wall so that it overlaps the cork board underneath.  Use small finishing nails to avoid splitting the wood.
7. Decorate your beautiful framed bulletin board however you'd like.  I'm just waiting for my world map to come in!

Decorative Tree
I originally made this to be a memory tree at my wedding (pictures can be seen on "What a beautiful day..." page) & converted it into a bedroom decoration after the wedding.  This is a great way to spice up the corner of any room!  Instructions can also be found on the "What a beautiful day" page.
